Define Phase -- Heineken

 We have set up the research question: How does applying Internet of Things (IoT) technology help make Heineken's brewing process better?. To answer this question, we used the 5W2H method to keep things simple and clear.

In addition to our main research question, we have developed several sub-questions to guide our study. These sub-questions will help us explore different aspects of how IoT technology impacts Heineken's brewing process. Here are the key sub-questions we will be investigating:

- What are possible future developments of IoT

- What specific IoT technologies are currently used 

- What risks arise when using IoT

- How IoT affects Heineken's brewing process



1. What: What are we studying?

We are looking at Internet of Things (IoT) technology. We already know that IoT makes it easier to watch over and automate production processes by collecting data through the internet. But what we still need to find out is how Heineken is using IoT and what specific benefits they get from it. Key technical points include things like networks, data analysis, and security. We are focusing on Heineken’s brewing process and what changes IoT brings to it.


2. Why: Why are we doing this research?

We got curious about IoT because we hadn’t learned much about it before. We wanted to find out what advantages and disadvantages it offers to businesses. IoT fits well with Heineken’s large-scale brewing process because it helps boost efficiency, ensures product quality, and supports sustainability. Our goal is to understand how IoT improves these areas in their brewing process.


3. Where: Where are we finding the answers?

We will look for information in various places like ChatGPT, Heineken articles, IoT websites, YouTube videos, and search engines like Google. These sources will give us a full picture of how IoT is used in the brewing industry.


4. When + Who: Timeline and tasks

We’ve made a simple plan to keep everything on track. Here are some key tasks:


- 23-9 to 27-9: Tim will update the blog.

- 24-9: Gijs Abels will research IoT in the brewing sector.

- 24-9: Gijs M. will contact companies for IoT interviews.

- 25-9: Wessel will analyze how IoT affects Heineken's process.

- 26-9: The whole team will work together to look at strategic options and answer the research question.


5. How to pitch

We will work on a simple pitch to explain the key points from our research.


6. How to blog

We will structure our blog using the DMAIC method (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control). The blog will cover:

- An explanation of Heineken’s brewing process

- How IoT is used at Heineken

- How IoT helps improve the process

- The use of smart sensors and data in brewing

- The pros and cons of IoT

- How IoT improves sustainability and efficiency

- The future of IoT in the beer industry


With this approach, we aim to answer our research question and give clear insights into how IoT is making a difference in Heineken’s brewing process.
